Morris, who has played 101 times for Crew over the past five seasons, is currently with the United States' Under-23 side as they prepare for this summer's Paris Olympics. However, Boro – who finished eight last season – and other clubs have the power to block their players featuring at the Olympics as the competition does not fall in an official FIFA window; but the 5ft 10in player is likely to be allowed to play.

Morris, who is a more defensively-minded midfielder who can go box-to-box, has won the MLS Cup on two occasions with Crew (2020 and 2023). He currently has five USA caps to his name after making his debut in 2023 but was not selected for their upcoming Copa America campaign.
