According to the Express & Star, West Brom are working towards sealing a January loan deal for out-of-favour Everton defender Mason Holgate.
What’s the story?
Holgate began the campaign as a regular starter for the Toffees. However, he has found himself outcast by Marco Silva in recent weeks, and it seems as though a January loan switch is the best route back to regular football for the 22-year-old.
Plenty of clubs, in both the Championship and the Premier League, ought to be keen to land the versatile youngster in January, but the Baggies appear to currently be leading the charge.
Holgate would be a fine addition to Darren Moore’s squad, and West Brom should go all out to ensure they win the race to his signature.

The perfect target
The Baggies are seeking an immediate return to the Premier League this season, having been relegated from the top flight last time out. With more than half the season now gone, West Brom are still very much in the hunt for an automatic promotion place. However, Moore’s side must tighten up at the back if they are to be successful.
Defensively, the midlands outfit lack depth. The addition of Holgate would give Moore a much-needed extra option at back, and the Everton man’s versatility would make him an even more valuable asset throughout the remainder of the gruelling Championship campaign.
With Holgate clearly currently surplus to requirements at Goodison Park, he represents an attainable and affordable target for Moore to pursue in the January transfer window.
